Kaya Kalpa
Kaya Kalpa is the ultimate mind-body healing experience by detoxifying and rejuvenating the body, restoring balance and well-being in all level. Ayurveda is the most ancient healing system on the earth. Because of its Mind-Body holistic approach, it’s becoming more and more relevant to the modern men then ever. According to Ayurveda, our body is an expression of consciousness. On the physical level,it is made up of the same universal ingredients as the five elements: space, air, fire, water, and earth.
In order to sustain life, we are constantly exchanging and metabolizing these elements through food, water and air. When our Agni (Digestive Fire- Digestive Enzyme) is weak and cannot digest food completely, in result, undigested toxins create imbalance on the physical level, and undigested experiences, unprocessed and unresolved emotion creates imbalances and stagnation on the mental level. Panchakarma is a thorough and deep cleansing process used to eliminate these toxins and to restore health, immunity, vitality and longevity.
Once the body is clean, and channels are open, Dr. Verma applies Yoga Therapy with his unique spiritual techniques of Sound therapy (Nada) to dissolve the deep rooted and long seated Kleshas (Mental and Emotional Traumas) which are the result of past Sanskaras (conditioning). This therapy is an initiation in spiritual guidance to experience and realize our true self; each participant receives his/her unique Sadhana (spiritual practice) individually in accordance to his/her own unique mind-body being.

Ayurveda- The Ancient knowledge of “happy, healthy and long life”
Ayurveda is one of the oldest natural holistic scientific healing systems on Earth, and has a long, well documented history of prevention and curing of diseases. Thousands of years prior to pre-historic time, in the Himalayan Valley, this know ledge was perceived and understood by Rishies, “the seers of wisdom”, through their higher consciousness.
From that time, this Divine knowledge was transmitted orally from one millennia to another, from one generation to another, in the form of melodious songs and folklore. It is a beautiful stream of eternal wisdom, flowing as Santana Dharma, all the way from the most ancient Indus Valley civilizations such as Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa to the modern Indian subcontinent and the rest of the world. Now, this traditional healing art, after having been scientifically researched for hundreds of years, is available in different classical texts, written in Sanskrit, translated into many languages and taught in different universities and medical colleges in India and abroad.
The word Ayurveda consists of two Sanskrit roots, Ayur - meaning life and Veda - meaning science, so Ayurveda means: “Science of Life”.
Ayurveda, as its meaning suggests – is the science of life and longevity, not just a medical system in the conventional sense for the curing of disease, but a complete way of life, which teaches us how to maintain and protect health, how to create psychosomatically well immune offspring’s , how to prevent and cure disease, and how to prolong life in a happy and healthy way.
Ayurveda is truly a complete holistic natural healing system, which explains the way in which the macrocosm (Universe) mirrors the microcosm (All living beings) and how they influence each other. Ayurveda treats man as a whole (holistically), - combining body, mind and soul. Ayurveda explains disease as disharmony between body, mind and consciousness, and health as harmony and balance between them.
Ayurveda explains in detail how each thought and emotion influences our physiology and how different qualities of energy levels in our internal organs can affect and alter our mind and emotions. Ayurveda is truly a Mind-Body health care system which not only describes the mind-body connection but also prescribes the different natural methods to reintegrate it.
Ayurveda gives us the practical knowledge of how disharmony occurs, and how to reestablish harmony and thus restore balance and health
Ayurveda uses purely natural methods including healthy, wholesome food and life-style, natural herbs, oils and aromas as well psychic and spiritual methods such as healing stones and gems, primordial sound, yoga, breathing exercise (Pranayama) and meditation.
Ayurveda has simple, useful tips for the layman to help him keep fit through healthy diet, healthy life style and balanced and relaxed behavior. It also contains more detailed clinical knowledge for doctors, healers and other health care professional.
Ayurveda, Yoga and Tantra
Ayurveda, Yoga and Tantra are all related to the same knowledge which was revealed by the same group of Rishis in the same Himalayan region of India.
Ayurveda is the healing branch of Yoga and Tantra. Tantra and Yoga are the spiritual aspects of Ayurveda.
Yoga is far more then asana or exercise as we see in the West.
Yoga helps to raise our narrow, egoistic, individual self to the level where we can experience the vastness of higher consciousness.
Tantra gives us the various practical techniques of meditation to transcend our mind and negative emotions. Tantra is far more then the mere sexual practices which are now popular in the West. This aspect reflects only one small branch of Tantra. Tantra is a complete system of human development that can help us to improve all of our perspectives and awareness of life. Tantric practices include all sensory therapy including: Sound , Mantra, Color, Yantra, Aroma , Chakra Healing, different types of body work , Marma and meditations.
Yogic and Tantric practices require a healthy body and mind.
Ayurveda provides this necessary tool for achieving the goal of Tantra and Yoga.
Fundamentals of Ayurvedic Mind-Body type
According to Ayurveda the universe and all living beings are made up of five gross elements: space, air, fire, water and earth. These five elements are the contents of cosmic consciousness, five basic energies and the five different states of matter which have manifested through evolution from the Purusha (soul of the Universe and male energy) and Prakrati ( Primordial matter and female energy ). These elements are common in both living and non living things, organic and non organic existence. They are everywhere either in gross or subtle form.
These five elements are represented in the body and divided into three basic mind-body organizations, or constitutions called “Dosha”. They are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
Vata - is a principle of movement and energy, Prana, vital force behind the nervous system which governs all the movement and the functions of the body and mind. In general, catabolic principle.
Pitta - principle of metabolism, which governs not only the digestive functions, but also our mental capacity to digest, absorb and assimilate thoughts, ideas and concepts and transform them into pure knowledge and intelligence. Pitta also governs our body temperature.
Kapha - principle of comprehension and growth. Governs the structure of the body, through cell division and growth of the tissues. It also governs our emotions like love, compassion, etc. in general anabolic principle.
These 3 mind-body principles govern all our anatomical, physiological, pathological and psychological functions. Ayurveda believes that as long as they are balanced and in a state of harmony, a person is healthy and happy.
Disharmony and aggravation in the Dosha is the main cause of discomfort and dis-ease in the body and mind.
Each of us possess these 3 life factors - Vata, Pitta and Kapha in our psycho-physical makeup. Vata gives us energy, vitality and motivation, Pitta gives us warmth and the capacity to transform substance and assimilate it in the body while Kapha makes up the structure of our body and emotions, our flesh, bones all bodily fluids.
Each of us has a unique genetic combination of these Doshas, which are transmitted from parents to offspring. At the time of fertilization, the combination and domination of one or two Doshas from the sperm in man and ova in woman, determine our psycho-somatic individual constitution, which is called “Prakrati”. This domination of Doshas greatly influences the characteristic feature of the embryo throughout his life. If Vata is predominant then the person is called Vata type. This follows for Pitta and Kapha as well. According to permutation and combination there are 7 different body types - 3 dual types (Vata-Pitta, Pitta-Kapha, Kapha-Vata), 3 mono types (Vata, Pitta, Kapha), and one triple Tridosic type (Vata-Pitta-Kapha).
To understand ourselves as a whole it is very crucial to know our body type because our health and illness, emotional responses, diet, life style, behavior, relationship, are all inherent in our unique body type. In Ayurvedic diagnosis it is very crucial to know what type of person has the disease. What type of disease the person has is a secondary consideration. This constitutional approach is the essence of Ayurveda. Each body type has some specific characteristics according to the domination of doshas.
Some of them are as follows
Characteristics of Vata type
\ Light thin body, narrow wrist, shoulder and pelvic.
\ Walk fast, talk fast, and perform every activity fast.
\ Irregular habits, hunger and digestion.
\ Light sleep and tends to insomnia.
\ Low stamina, tires easily.
\ Excitable, hyperactive mind.
\ Learns fast, but also forgets fast
\ Tends to have constipation and pain in the body.
\ Tends to worry and be anxious.
Characteristics of Pitta type
\ Medium body frame.
\ Sharp hunger and thirst, strong digestion.
\ Tends to have acidity, diarrhea or skin problem.
\ Suffer more in sun and hot weather. Tends to have hair problems, premature graying and baldness.
\ Sharp intellect and understanding.
\ Tends toward anger, irritation, impatience and jealousy.
Characteristics of Kapha Type
\ Big body frame, tends to gain weight fast, slow to loose it.
\ Slow digestion, low metabolism.
\ Slow walk, slow talk, and tranquil relaxed personality.
\ Smooth cool and oily skin.
\ Tolerant, forgiving, compassionate nature.
\ Tends to over attachment and possessiveness
All body types have their negative and positive characteristics and attributes. The positive nature exhibits itself spontaneously when they are in balance. Negative characteristics show up in the imbalanced Dosha
What are the causes of imbalance?
Improper unwholesome food (Ahar), life style (Vihar), behavior(Achar), thinking and relationship(Vichar), aggravate the Dosha and this aggravated Dosha causes imbalance to the Agni (digestive fire) - the power of digestion. This impaired digestion cannot digest food properly and produces toxins, which are called Ama. This Ama is an undigested residue of food, which clogs the energy flow on both physical and mental levels and creates disharmony-discomfort in body-mind. This is one of the main causes of many types of diseases. In Ayurveda, proper and balanced digestion is the key to health, vitality and longevity.
Diagnosis and treatment in Ayurveda
In Ayurvedic diagnosis, the physician diagnoses the whole personality, the physical, mental and spiritual health simultaneously. Pulse diagnosis, one of the most important examinations in Ayurveda, allows the physician to determine the physical diagnosis of the body type, state of the physical and energy level of the internal organs and Dosha constitution – its balance or disharmony.
The first objective in Ayurvedic treatment is to remove the root cause of the disease by correcting the improper food habits and life style. Secondly, to eliminate the Ama, the toxin from the deep tissue, Ayurveda offers a purification program called Panchakarma.
What is Panchakarma?
Panchakarma (five purification methods) is a very unique therapy which
includes relaxing herbal oil massages, steam baths and different kinds of
cleansing herbal enemas etc. Panchakarma is a rejuvenation program which
balances the Doshas and Agni and provides deep relaxation for the body-mind.
Many scientific studies have shown that Panchakarma balances biochemistry,
improves cardio-vascular risk factors, reduces stress and free radicals,
strengthens immunity, increases flexibility and retards the aging process.
During a two week to one month long Panchakarma package program a person
easily goes into deep relaxation as rhythmically warm oil Abhiyanga
(Ayurvedic Massage) is introduced to his entire body. The invigorating and
revitalizing effects of rubbing special herbal oil in a specific pattern of hand
movements generates “Agni” or metabolic fire which melts, dissolves, softens,
loosens and draws out toxins from deep tissues. Following this, a penetrating
and soothing herbal steam bath “Swedana” is applied which liquidifies the toxins
and gently draws them out from the body, thereby relaxing the muscles and joints.
For deep relaxation, removing mental stress and related problems like insomnia,
migraine etc., Shirodhara is a treatment consisting of a soothing stream of
warm oil poured on the forehead (third eye area). Nowadays Shirodhara is well
known for its extremely tranquil effects on the nervous system, hyperactive mind
and producing a meditative bliss.
There are some other cleansing treatments which can be applied according
to the individual’s constitutional body type including: Basti “Ayurvedic
Enemas” which remove toxins from the colon. Nasya- a rejuvenating facial
massage is followed by herbal nose drops which open the nasal passages,
increases the intake of oxygen and Prana, the vital energy that gives us
clarity of perception and lightness, as well as easing headaches
and migraines.
Ayurvedic bodywork that includes different kinds of massages with a
variety of aromatic essential oils or herbal oils is known as "Ayurvedic
Neuromuscular Therapy" which can be a part of Panchakarma.
This therapy is a unique type of body work performed on the junction
points of Body - Mind – Consciousness. It is known as Marma and helps
to release life-long physical and emotional traumas, which are trapped
in our bodies as unresolved memories.
Ayurveda can help many types of chronic and incurable diseases, such as
asthma, bronchitis, allergy, skin problems, fatigue, diabetes, obesity,
Stress, memory-disorders, arthritis, gout, insomnia, sexual-problems,
impotency, sterility, habitual abortion, etc.
Ayurvedic therapy can be easily combined with conventional treatment
as an adjuvant therapy.

Ayurveda and Yoga Therapy
Yoga and Ayurveda both have the same complementary approach towards Swastha
(health) and Cikitsa (healing) on a very deep level. According to Yoga, a Moodh- Kchipta
(Disturbed state of mind) or any negative internal or external stimuli (Klesha) creates
a Psycho-physiological disturbance (Vikchepa). This leads to a state of miserable
distress (Dukha-Daurmanasya) of the organism and affects the flow of Prana
(Swasa-Praswasa) which manifests as Vyadhi (via-a dha-out of track). This phenomenal
fact described beautifully in the thirty-first sutra of first section of Yoga-Sutra of
Patanjajali. By practicing different steps of yoga a practitioner creates a Nirudhi
(Transcendental state of mind) which leads to Samadhi (Sama-a-dha- to put together
as one whole). Samadhi is the state of being, integrated functioning homeostasis,
a psycho-somatic balance, where the person returns to his own original form (Swaroop),
only then is he really Swastha (healthy).
My grandfather Vaidhya Munnalal Verma a celebrated Yogi and dedicated Ayurvedic
Physician, successfully used these Yogic-Ayurvedic approaches in his clinical practice
for years and it has been an fundamental source of my further understanding on
the subject.
To bring real Samadhi and Swastha I found a beautiful and profound integrated
Ayurvedic and yogic approach, consisting of four comprehensive steps.
Understanding the human psyche on a deep level through right knowledge (vidhya),
in order to cultivate the correct psychological attitudes. This Vedic knowledge
reveals that we are not only a physical machine of biochemical processes or only
a psychological victims of socio-religious conditioning, but we are a conscious
being which can be aware and rise from our narrow, egoistic, limited personality
to on that level where we can experience unlimited vastness of our true being,
which is beyond the suffering and the pain. To give a complete and comprehensive
picture of human psyche and to take us out from physicality of Maya, this Vedic
knowledge describes how every human being made up of seven different bodies
including our physical and mental body and how these different body functions
together in order to sustain the organism. When we can peel all covering of
different bodily layer of our soul then we can realize that Raga ( wrong
attachment with Maya) is one of the main cause of Roga ( disease) and can be
dealt with by Abhyas (constant de-conditioning practice) and Vairagya
(conscious living).
1. Reconditioning of the neuro-muscular and neuro-glandular system through
different practice of Yoga which enhances physical and mental immunity.
Now it has been established in the medical community that Ayurveda, yoga and
Tantra all these eastern sciences are the first and the best mind-body medicine
ever known to human mind. They described beautifully how every mental or
emotional trauma accumulate as a complex node on the different vital organ
and Neuro-musculo-skelaton system, which greatly influence on our posture
and how we hold our body.. And when posture is distorted then Prana can not
move freely in the Nadi (Pranic Chenal). This distortion in posture can be
corrected through Asana and other Yogic practices.
2. Swastha-Vrata- Ayurvedic health regimen of a healthy lifestyle,
wholesome satvic diet, encouraging the natural process of elimination,
the avoidance of the suppression of natural urges. All this Ayurvedic
healthy regimen and life style is understanding and following one's
natural bio-rhythms tailoring it to the cosmic- rhythms. Because, ultimately
our personality is made up of four things; what and how we eat (Ahar),
how we spend our time (Vihar), what we think (Vichar) and how we relate
to each other (Achar).
4. Special Yogic practices to regulate the Pancha Vayu (five kinds of main
vital energy or SubVata Dosa). All Yogic practices of Asana, Pranayama,
bandha, mudra, kriya, connect to one or two specific Pancha Vayu and
regulate the flow of Prana. According to Ayurveda, any disease or discomfort
is the result of the flow of one or other Pancha Vayu going out of track
(Vyadhi). Ayurveda is the detective tool for tracing the imbalanced Vayu
and Yoga and Tantra are excellent therapeutic means to balance it.
While I was living and studying at a well known scientific and literary
research institute of Yoga, Kaivalyadhama, India, I realized this
integrated and very practical diagnostic and therapeutic fact of
Ayurveda and Yoga about Pancha-Vayu. Ayurveda elegantly describes
these Pancha Vayu as Sub Vata Dosha and there is a detailed
description of how to diagnose their Dusti (Disturbed state) but the
treatment is mainly on a physical and gross level. On other hand in
Yoga there is not that much clear description about Diagnosis of these
Pancha-Vayu but whole Hatha Yoga is the play of these five life
energies on a very deep and subtle level. In fact, in yoga any desired
movement or transformation, either kundilini awakening or opening
of Chakra or performing a simple asana (posture), can not be established
without involving the Pancha Vayu. For example, disturbed Udan Vayu
can create coughing, vomiting, reflex problem on a physical level and
psychological or emotional level it can create lack of self-expression,
lack of enthusiasm or arrogance, throat and heart chakra related
problems etc. This disturbed Udana can be diagnosed by Ayurvedic
diagnostic methods and can be managed by those Yogic practices
where the emphasis is given to Udan Vayu, posture like Bhujangasana,
bandha like Uddiyana bandha, mudra like Viparit karani and kriya
like Kapalbhati etc.
These four steps are the essence of Yoga Therapy. They are not only
dealt with disease but they are also an comprehensive means to Sadhaka,
to understand Yoga on very deep level and provides the right tools to
experience the ultimate aim of Yoga-“ Samadhi”, an ultimate balance.

There is an old eastern parable, one old beggar died, He had been sitting side by a road and begged all his life, on the same place and never cleaned it. After his death the place was cleaned and while the dirty mud was removed, they found an old treasure. The man was begging all his life for pennies, completely unaware about the precious treasure underneath him.
Of course the story is a beautiful parable to indicate our ignorance for spiritual treasure which is within us. Also, we have so much natural treasure around us and we are not aware about it. The nature which is sours of our being, nourishes us through food, water and air must have answer for our ill health. Plants brings to us the nourishing power of sun and moon, the Prana, the cosmic energy which not only used by our each and individual cell for living but also it maintain and allow to grow our astral body. Through science we know how the plants make the food and tied up with sunlight energy and make ready to available this solar energy to our each and every cell to sustain the life. That’s how the Plants make ready to available the external solar system to inner solar system into living beings. They are an alive transmuting media of cosmic force, messengers which passes energy and information, love and compassion from cosmos to our DNA molecule, from macrocosm to the microcosm.
One of the great spiritual doctrines from India Chandogya Upanishad Says: “The essence of all beings is earth. The essence of the earth is water. The essence of water is the plants. The essence of plants is the human being”.
Our ancestors recognized this fact, plants are deep down grounded in nature connected to with water and earth, standing silently on one place, seems passive but actively inhaling and exhaling the cosmic love and nurturing emotions and passing them to all living beings as it is. For plants it’s easier because of their egoless state of being. One Sanskrit synonym for plants is Osadhi which literally means “Transformer of intelligence”.
This healing touch of nature in the plants recognized by modern botanist as “Phytochemical”
According to them, Phytochemicals are the known biologically active substance in the plants which gives them color, flavor, fragrance and natural disease resistance. Many researches show their powerful role in prevention and curing the different diseases. For example, a phytochemical called “sulphoraphane” found in broccoli helps to take out the carcinogen molecule from the cell and prevent cancer. Now scientists have been able to isolate some phytochemicals and number of companies now selling theses concentrates phytochemical in the form of pills obtained from various fruits and vegetables. Although these substance can be use as supplements on some extent but they can not be seen as replacement for fresh whole foods from nature’s baskets. The substance which seems to inactive ingredients to the scientists today was recognized by our ancestors Rishi of Ayurveda as subtle energetic enzyme, containing the digestive fire which may necessary to combust the phytochemicals and made available to the body in such a precise way that after their digestion, they would not leave any toxic waste in the body.
According to Ayurveda, the ancient medical system from India, taking only active ingredients from the plants, would be recognized as taking knowledge and leaving wisdom behind.
One of the treasures from nature’s basket is Jamun or Jambolan tree (SYZIGIUM CUMINI) or (Eugenia cumini) which is not only popular for its juicy sweet-astringent fruits but also gaining popularity for its medicinal uses. The most popular Indian sweet Gulab Jamun is named after the fruit of this tree. It is a fast growing tree ranges up to 100 m in India and 40 to 50 m in Israel.
Thousands of years it has been used for its medicinal property in Indian subcontinent as a folk medicine and well documented in the pharmaceutical books of Ayurveda. And now it is drawing attention to the scientist for its hypoglycemic affect.
Jamun is native in India, Burma, Ceylon and the Andaman Islands. When I discovered it in Israel I surprised that how we are so unaware about this nature’s treasure in Israel. According to one survey it was introduced to Israel perhaps around 1940, it grows vigorously here, valued as an ornamental tree but completely ignored for its special flavored delicious fruits and its miraculous medicinal value. Although other part of the world, especially in Asia, Jamun is more recognized for its Pharmaceutical value then any other field. Almost all the parts of the tree, fruits, seeds, leaves, bark poses medicinal value.
Leaves: Jamun has 2.5 to 10 cm wide in oblong –oval shape evergreen with turpentine smell. The leaves are antibacterial and used in dysentery, vomiting and skin disease.
Flowers: have sweet fragrant, white-pinkish color, small funnel-shaped, blooms in March up to May. Fully bloomed flowers are full of nectar consumed by honey bee, produce fine quality of honey and are useful for apiculture.
Fruits: their size is as of big olives, green in the beginning and later turn to purple, and become black as they ripen. The ripe fruit is stomachic, carminative, diuretic, astringent and used in bilious diarrhea.
The Pulp of the fruits is purple, very juicy with sweet- astringent taste. The pulp of ripen fruit can be cooked as delicious Avaleha (jam) and used to reduce acute diarrhea and good for IBS (Irritable Bowl Syndrome).
Vinegar: made out of Jamun fruit juice has beautiful violet color. Besides Its use as vinegar it is also used to strengthen the stomach, liver and reducing enlarged spleen.
The Ashava (herbal wine): To make Ayurvedic Herbal wine a yeast culture is added to the fresh juice of Jamun with some other herbs and allowed it to ferment for a period of time. This Jamun wine is used for reducing diarrhea and Diabetes.
Bark: is astringent and shows antibacterial properties, used as gargles for sore throat and strengthens the gums and teeth.
Seeds: The powder of the seeds shows a significant hypoglycemic effect (reducing high blood sugar). In Ayurveda It has been used for thousands of years as one of the important ingredients in any Ayurvedic compound for diabetes.
In India, a clinical trial was conducted on 80 patients of non insulin dependant diabetes mellitus. All the patients were treated with the seed powder, 12 gram per day, in three divided doses for 3 months. There was significant symptomatic relief along with regulation of blood sugar. It did not show any side affect. Other study shows, it can be used as adjuvant with conventional medicine where diabetes type II is not responding well to conventional medicine.
Besides the physiological effect, the clinical study shows its positive influence on the mind and emotion. It works as a potent CNS depressant agent as it shows by alteration of general behavior, reduction in hyperactive, reduction in exploratory behavior, reduce of aggressive behavior, hypothermia, muscle relax tent and analgesic. This shows the wholesome and Psycho-somatic love of the compassionate nature through Plants.
According to Ayurveda – The science of life and ancient medical wisdom of India, Food is the best medicine. Most of the Ayurvedic medicine are the food substance and consumed as tea, soup, salad, jam. Vinegar, wine etc. Ayurvedic pharmacopeias is very rich. There is thousands of herbs use as a single herb and as well hundreds of herbal compound.
